Dirt, Diamonds, and Gold

Greetings from Tucson, AZ! Did you know Tucson has the biggest gem and mineral show in the world? Last week, I met a guy who searches for precious stones, he goes through lots of dirt to find these hidden treasures. One stone he cleaned up for $1,000 , but was selling it for $10,000. He told me that sometimes he could search for weeks and find nothing, but when he does… it’s worth it. It had me thinking about the dirt we must go through in order to find something valuable in life. For me, I’m looking for a wife, and I’m going through the process of sifting right now, seeing who is gold, and who is fool’s gold. But this even stretches into my work ethic of trying to get a good song, or developing a good story, or even writing this blog! I have to go through several revisions to come up with something that is clear, and clearly reflects truth.

Having this attitude helps me navigate, and process my emotions because I don’t take everything as  ” This has to be it! ” it’s more like ” Let’s see, sift… and evaluate ” and if that thing  is not reflecting the light like a diamond, then I set it aside.

” Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” -Philippians 4:8

It takes WORK to FIND something good.  Good things don’t come easy, and if they do, it’s because somebody WORKED their butt off to get it for us – so we should ALWAYS be grateful! Dirt is inevitable,  but when we work and  sift though the dirt to FIND diamonds…. then our lives, and the lives of those around us are enriched.
