Joshua 18:3 says, “ How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you? There is a big difference between ownership, and possession. You can own a car, but it can be in someone else’s possession. Ownership like having a check, but it will do you no good until you deposit it. Ownership is the right to possess something, but conflict is the way of actually gaining it.
Joshua 18 also gives the Israelites instructions for taking possession of the land 1) Survey it 2) Write a description of it. 3) Cast lots. We can learn from this. Whatever we ought to take possession of for example : peace of mind… then we need to survey peace mind, write out a description of how it will play in our lives. And finally we need to cast our lots in the presence of God and see how he works it all out.
