Plato’s Allegory of the Cave

It’s amazing how ideas can travel through time, and end up in our minds. About 2,400 years ago, Plato had this idea of people being born in a cave, chained to just see a wall with shadows on it. These prisoners were trapped in an experience, and the shadows on the wall were their only reality. Yet one day one of them broke free, and ” saw the light”. He realized that the things casting shadows were just illusion. This Ted animation is pretty cool, except it misses out on the raised wall like the picture below it shows.

This is why I think it’s important that we travel, learn, and observe the world from a higher perspective… Because when we get trapped in our own experience we can miss out on the abundant life that Jesus promises in John 10:10.

Many evils we see today aren’t caused by what we think ..Many people hide their inner demons behind a mask of race, religion, sex, etc. but if we would look closer, we could see the insecurities and the feelings of unworthiness that these evils spring from.

That’s why I believe in the power of  prayer…” For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12)

Racism is just a shadow of the antichrist spirit…sex-trafficking is another… But thank God for Jesus we have the power to overcome them all.
